Aryeh Leib Yaffe was born in Grodno, Russia, on June 5, 1876, a descendant of a well-known rabbinical family, and the grandson of Rabbi Mordechai Gimpel Yaffe. He was initially educated in the room. From 1891 to 1892 he studied at the Volozhin Yeshiva, and then studied philosophy, science and European languages ​​at the universities of Heidelberg, Freiburg and Leipzig until 1901. Yaffa was a Zionist activist from his youth, and expressed his worldview in the poems he wrote. He participated in Zionist congresses and fulfilled many public missions on behalf of the Keren Hayesod, which was an administration. Also participated in the editing of the world newspaper, which was published in Vilnius. In 1920 he immigrated to Eretz Israel and was a member of the delegation committee. He was the editor of the Haaretz newspaper for a short time, between 1921 and 1922.

During the War of Independence, a car bomb that Arabs infiltrated into the territory of the National Institutions House in Jerusalem was killed in an explosion. Buried in the Sanhedria Cemetery. After the Six Day War, he was taken for burial in the Mount of Olives cemetery.

Leib Yaffe was the brother of Bezalel Yaffe, one of the pioneers of the city of Tel Aviv.
