Moshe Amir (originally Bliach) was a prominent Eshkolot figure, thinker, educator, and public figure in the labor movement and the Histadrut. He was born in 1897 and died peacefully in August 1977, at the age of 80.

His early life and education

• Birth and family: Moshe was born on March 18, 1897 in the town of Droya (Druja), son of Eliyahu Hillel Bliach And he came. His father was a "Zorba rabbinan" and from him Moshe received the beginning of his Torah education.

• Military experience: Moshe served in various armies during World War I and the period after it: as a corporal in the army of Tsar Nicholas, as an officer during the Kerensky era, and later in the Red Army and the Latvian Army.
• teaching: He dedicated 16 years of teaching in Latvia, where he served as principal of the first elementary school, a teacher at the municipal gymnasium and at a school of the "ORT" chain.

Public and Zionist activity

• The beginning of the road: The spark of Zionist activity was ignited in him when he met Yosef Trumpeldor, who was recruiting a Jewish army in their city. He was one of the founders of the "Young Men of Zion" movement and an active member of "Hechaluts."
• Positions in Latvia: He served as the movement's representative in public institutions, banks, and the municipality, and was a member of the board of the Latvian Health Insurance Fund.
• Immigration and activity in Israel: Moses immigrated to the Land of Israel in 1935 (After a brief visit in 1934). In Israel he continued his extensive public activity:
  • Secretary of the Israel Workers' Party (Mapai) in Tel Aviv.
  • Chairman of the Tel Aviv District Health Fund and member of the Histadrut's Central Audit Committee.

His thought and writing

• Journalism: Moshe was a prolific journalist and wrote regularly for Yiddish and Hebrew newspapers, including "Das Falk", "Primargan", "Unzer Weg" and "Yiddishesh Shtime". He was even named a writer in the YIVO encyclopedia.
• Worldview: In his writings and speeches, he emphasized the importance of The assets of the spirit And morality over materialism.
