אנדרטה בשמרלי לחיילים יהודיים שנפלו במלחמת העצמאות של לטביה – A monument in Shmerley in memory of the Jewish soldiers who fell in the Latvian War of Independence

Riga New Jewish cemetery was founded in the mid 20-ies of XX century, taking over the functions of already filled old cemetery. The author of the project was renowned Jewish architect Paul Mandelstam. He created the layout of the cemetery and a hall for funeral ceremonies.

In May 1934, The monument to 37 Jewish soldiers and officers who died in the struggle for independence of Latvia in 1918-1920 was opened at the central alley of the cemetery.
