שואת יהודי לטביה מצטיירת מתוך העדויות כתקופה של סבל בלתי נתפס, אך גם של תושייה עילאית. העדויות מתארות את גטו ריגה וגטו דאוגבפילס כמוקדים של רעב כבד, עבודות כפייה ודיכוי אכזרי, מהם נשלחו יהודים רבים למחנות ריכוז דוגמת קייזרוואלד ושטוטהוף (H42-3_web_small). בתוך אפלה זו, בולט במיוחד סיפורה של הניצולה אביבה ברוור (לבית ניבורג). אביבה, שהייתה כבת חמש וחצי, חולצה מגטו ריגה בזכות תושייתה המופלאה של אמה, אשר שיתפה פעולה עם נהג משאית והבריחה את בתה כשהיא עטופה בשמיכות או בתוך שק (H42-2f).
אביבה הוסתרה בליבאו בבית משפחת קומר הגרמנית. למרבה האירוניה והסכנה, בעוד אביבה הוסתרה בקומה השנייה – לעיתים מאחורי ראי טואלט גדול בחדר ההורים – בקומה הראשונה של אותו בית ממש התגוררה משפחה של קצין נאצי (S.S) (H42-2f). המציל, פרדריק קומר, שסיכן את חייו ואת משפחתו למענה, הוכר בשנת 1981 כחסיד אומות עולם (H42-2f).

The Holocaust of Latvian Jews is portrayed in the evidence as a period of unimaginable suffering, but also of supreme resourcefulness. The evidence describes the Riga Ghetto andDaugavpils Ghetto As centers of severe hunger, forced labor, and brutal oppression, many Jews were sent to concentration camps such as Kaiserwald andStutthof (H42-3_web_small). Amidst this darkness, the story of the survivor stands out in particular. Aviva Brewer (née Nyborg). Aviva, who was about five and a half years old, was rescued from the Riga ghetto thanks to the extraordinary resourcefulness of her mother, who collaborated with a truck driver and smuggled her daughter out wrapped in blankets or in a sack (H42-2f).
Aviva was hidden in Liepaja in the house of the German Komer family. Ironically and dangerously, while Aviva was hidden on the second floor – sometimes behind a large toilet mirror in the parents’ room – the family of a Nazi (S.S.) officer lived on the first floor of the same house (H42-2f). The rescuer, Frederick Comer, who risked his life and family for it, was recognized in 1981 as a Righteous Among the Nations (H42-2f).
Alongside individual rescue stories, the sources reveal the extent of the destruction of the entire community, and in particular the The destruction of the Jewish medical community in Latvia. The documentation includes detailed lists of hundreds of doctors, pharmacists and medical students, indicating their years of birth, specialization and place of murder (H42-3_web_small). Many of them, along with tens of thousands of other Jews, died in mass shootings carried out in forests such as Rombola andPogolanka (H42-3_web_small).
